Upcoming Events: Digital Media Conference, Distribution U

Tweet Lots of fun events/learning opportunities coming up soon. Here are a couple. The good folks at Bay Area Women in Film and Media are sponsoring Digital Media Conference West on October 27. If you are on the left coast be sure to check it out. If you are a BAWIFM member, you should have received your notification for a discount. “DMC West is a full day of in-depth discussions and networking focused on the top business issues impacting digital media companies, including online video, social media, investments, online advertising, mobile entertainment, mobile apps, the future of news media and the relationship between Hollywood and Silicon Valley.” The lineup includes heavy hitters from the networks NBC, Fox and CBS, as well a fave read of mine NewTeeVee and the ever informative comScore. Scott Kirsner and Peter Broderick have brought back Distribution U. This is a REALLY great opportunity to get the nuts and bolts of new forms of film distribution from 2 people who know of what they speak. As these things go (I once saw a workshop to help you create a Facebook Fan Page for over $400) it’s very affordable. Excerpt from the mailing: “Peter Broderick and I are holding two workshops for filmmakers and media producers in November, one in New York on November 13th, and one in Los Angeles on November 20th. (Both of us were involved in shaping The Conversation.) These are intensive one-day workshops called “Distribution U.,” geared to exploring the ways that funding, distribution, and audience-building are changing in the 21st century.” Here are some discount links. Three indie films to watch on Earth Day

I have rise in quotes because a preservation of the environment is not new to most cultures. Anyway, different conversation. Earth Days Trailer from Zeitgeist Films on Vimeo. 2. THE AGE OF STUPID. Starring Kobayashi from the Usual Suspects. He is from the future, looking at the preventable actions that have led to our current condition. If you are in the United States of America you can't download it or watch it online, the link will take you to TV screenings. You should buy the DVD though! The Age of Stupid: Trailers: USA Trailer from Age of Stupid on Vimeo. 3. PLASTIC BAG - See life through the eyes of a plastic bag that got used way more often than most people use their plastic...
